Chickens: Hen And Rooster

Chickens: Hen And Rooster

In today's new puzzle we're featuring two beautiful chickens - a hen and a rooster ( also know as a cockerel or cock). Chickens are omnivores. In the wild, they often scratch at the soil to search for seeds, insects. Roosters can usually be differentiated from hens by their striking plumage of long flowing tails and shiny, pointed feathers on their necks (hackles) and backs (saddle). Adult chickens have a fleshy crest on their heads called a comb, or cockscomb, and hanging flaps of skin either side under their beaks called wattles. Both the adult male and female have wattles and combs, but in most breeds these are more prominent in males. Domestic chickens are not capable of long distance flight, although lighter birds are generally capable of flying for short distances.

BMW Headquarters

BMW Headquarters

The tower, on the left side of today's new jigsaw, was built between 1968 and 1972 and was ready in time for 1972 Summer Olympics. It is a Munich landmark which has served as world headquarters for the Bavarian automaker BMW for over 40 years. The main tower consists of four vertical cylinders standing next to and across from each other. Each cylinder is divided horizontally in its center by a mold in the facade. Notably, these cylinders do not stand on the ground; they are suspended on a central support tower.

Chinese Guardian Lion

Chinese guardian lions or Imperial guardian lion, traditionally known in Chinese simply as Shi, and often called "Foo Dogs" in the West, are a common representation of the lion in pre-modern China. Statues of guardian lions have traditionally stood in front of Chinese Imperial palaces, Imperial tombs, government offices, temples, and the homes of government officials and the wealthy, from the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), and were believed to have powerful mythic protective benefits.
Herstmonceux Castle

Herstmonceux Castle

From 1957 to 1988 its grounds were the home of the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. Today the Herstmonceux Castle (a brick-built Tudor castle near Herstmonceux, East Sussex, England) is used by the Bader International Study Centre of Queen's University, Canada. It is one of the oldest significant brick buildings still standing in England. The original castle was dismantled in 1777 leaving the exterior walls standing and remained a ruin until the early 20th century. Radical restoration work was undertaken by Colonel Lowther in 1913 to transform the ruined building into a residence and completed for Sir Paul Latham in 1933 by the architect, Walter Godfrey.
Alpine Lakes And Forest

Alpine Lakes And Forest

In today's new puzzle we're visiting the Denali National Park in Alaska. In this beautiful image you can see the blue alpine lakes and the green forest under a blue cloudy sky. Denali National Park and Preserve is a national park and preserve located in Interior Alaska, centered on Denali (Mount McKinley), the highest mountain in North America. Glaciers cover about 16% of the 6 million acres of Denali National Park and Preserve. There are more extensive glaciers on the southeastern side of the range because more snow is dropped on this side from the moisture-bearing winds from the Gulf of Alaska. During the very cold Pleistocene climates, all of Denali was solidly frozen. In the northern areas of the range, it is very much still frozen due to continued cold temperatures. Permanently frozen ground is known as permafrost. Vegetation in the park depends on the altitude. The treeline is at 2,500 feet (760 m), causing most of the park to be a vast expanse of tundra. There are three types of forest in the park: from lowest to highest, they are low brush bog, bottomland spruce-poplar forest, upland spruce-hardwood forest. Over 450 species of flowering plants fill the park and can be viewed in bloom throughout summer.
