These kind of camels, featured in today's jigsaw puzzle, are two-humped camels or bactrian cames, they inhabit Central Asia; the dromedary, or one-humped camel, inhabits the Middle East and the Horn of Africa. The domesticated Bactrian camel has served as a pack animal in inner Asia since ancient times. The wild form has dwindled to a population estimated at 800 in October 2002 and has been classified as critically endangered. Bactrian camels are diurnal, sleeping in the open at night and foraging for food during the day.
