Meller's Chameleon

Meller's chameleon also known as the giant one-horned chameleon, is the largest species of chameleon in Africa. Meller's live in bushy savannahs and eat insects, smaller lizards, worms, and caterpillars. Meller's chameleon was named after the botanist Charles James Meller (1836-1869).

The male is brightly colored with a blue-grey cap and rust-red underparts. The female is much duller in color, but both sexes have two contrasting white wing bars and white sides to the tail.

The African bush elephant inhabits forests, grasslands and woodlands, wetlands and agricultural land across 37 African countries (including Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Angola, Zambia, and Namibia). It is the largest living terrestrial animal. It is a herbivore, feeding on grasses, herbs, bark, and leaves.

Wild Yack

If you didn't know, the wild yak is a large bovine native to the Himalayas. It's habitat consists of treeless alpine areas between 3,000 and 5,500 m (9,800 and 18,000 ft), dominated by mountains and plateaus. Wild yaks once ranged up to southern Siberia to the east of Lake Baikal. Today, wild yaks are found primarily in northern Tibet and western Qinghai, with some populations extending into the southernmost parts of Xinjiang, and into India.

Pelican Flying

Pelicans are among the heaviest of flying birds. They use thermals for soaring to heights of 3000 m or more, combined both with gliding and with flapping flight in V formation, to travel distances of up to 150 km to feeding areas. Pelicans also fly low over stretches of water, using a phenomenon known as ground effect to reduce drag and increase lift. This helps them save substantial amounts of energy while flying.

Spiny-headed Tree Frog

In today's animal themed puzzle we feature a cute Spiny-headed tree frog sitting on a small branch. Also known as spiny-headed treefrog, spinyhead treefrog, coronated treefrog, or the crowned hyla, this cute amphibian lives in lowland rainforests and montane humid forests in Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, and southern Mexico. The spiny-headed tree frog has long and slender legs and it's digits have adhesive discs at the tips. The adhesive discs help it climb trees and other obstacles.

Cats have a tendency to fall asleep (lightly) for a brief period (this where the term "cat nap" comes from).

Blue-breasted Hummingbirds

Hummingbirds are small birds, with most species measuring 7.5–13 cm (3–5 in) in length, native to the Americas. There are about 360 species, they occur from Alaska to the south of Chile and Argentina, but the vast majority of the species are found in the tropics. Hummingbirds are specialized nectarivores (they feed on flower nectar) and are tied to the ornithophilous flowers upon which they feed.
