If you didn't know, the leopard is a big cat distinguished by its robust build and muscular but relatively shorter limbs, a broad head and a coat covered by spots arranged in rosettes. Basically pale yellow to yellowish brown or golden, the coat is spotted and rosetted; spots fade toward the white underbelly and the insides and lower parts of the legs. The leopard is solitary and territorial, as are several other felids. The leopard is a carnivore that prefers medium-sized prey. They can feed on a broad variety of prey, mainly antelopes, deer and rodents; these include: cattle, chital, duiker, waterbuck, young zebras, hartebeest, muntjac, nyala, porcupine, primates, reedbuck, hyrax, impala, gazelle, springbok, sambar, squirrel, warthog and wildebeest. It is often known colloquially in North America as the prong buck, pronghorn antelope, or simply antelope although it is not an antelope. Pronghorns were brought to scientific notice by the Lewis and Clark Expedition, which found them in what is now South Dakota. Their range extends from southern Saskatchewan and Alberta in Canada south through the United States (southwestern Minnesota and central Texas west to coastal southern California and northern Baja California Sur, to Sonora and San Luis Potosí in northern Mexico. Males have a prominent pair of horns on the top of the head, which are made up of an outer sheath of hairlike substance that grows around a bony core; the outer sheath is shed annually. Males have a horn sheath about 12.5–43 cm long with one prong.
