About: The yellow grosbeak lives on the Pacific slope of Mexico from central Sonora to northwestern Oaxaca, and in southern Chiapas and Guatemala. Occasional vagrants have reached the United States, mostly in summer in Arizona, but it has also been reported in California, Colorado, New Mexico, and even Iowa. Both sexes possess a relatively massive and all-dark bill. Males are principally black and yellow birds, with bold white markings over the largely black wings and tail, whilst females are less strikingly patterned, with dusky markings over the head and upperparts, but retain some, reduced, white wing markings.
