About: Centre Georges Pompidou is a complex building in the Beaubourg area of the 4th arrondissement of Paris. It was designed in the style of high-tech architecture by the architectural team of Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano, along with Gianfranco Franchini. It is named after Georges Pompidou, the President of France from 1969 to 1974 who commissioned the building, and was officially opened on 31 January 1977 by President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing. It houses the Bibliotheque publique d'information (Public Information Library), a vast public library, the Musee National d'Art Moderne, which is the largest museum for modern art in Europe, and IRCAM, a centre for music and acoustic research.

It's construction began in 1787 at the directive of George Washington, and was completed on January 10, 1791 using a fund of $1,500, established by him. It is the oldest lighthouse in the state of Maine. The tower was built of rubblestone and it stands 80 feet (24 m) above ground and 101 feet (31 m) above water. Today the light station is automated, and the tower, beacon, and foghorn are maintained by the United States Coast Guard, while the former lighthouse keepers' house is a maritime museum.

The top level's upper platform is 276 m above the ground – the highest observation deck accessible to the public in Europe. The Eiffel Tower was the world's tallest structure when completed in 1889, a distinction it retained until 1929 when the Chrysler Building in New York City was finished. The tower is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. More than 250 million people have visited the tower since it was completed in 1889.
