The church's double-towered front and the roof with its cupolas and roof lanterns give it an unusual appearance that distinguishes it from the other churches of Wurzburg. It was built following plans by Balthasar Neumann in the mid-18th century in Rococo style.

Portland Head Light, is a historic lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. It's construction began in 1787 at the directive of George Washington, and was completed on January 10, 1791 using a fund of $1,500, established by him. It is the oldest lighthouse in the state of Maine. The tower was built of rubblestone and it stands 80 feet (24 m) above ground and 101 feet (31 m) above water. Today the light station is automated, and the tower, beacon, and foghorn are maintained by the United States Coast Guard, while the former lighthouse keepers' house is a maritime museum.

On 16 March 1945, about 90% of the city was destroyed in 17 minutes by 225 British Lancaster bombers during a World War II air raid. All of the city's churches, cathedrals, and other monuments were heavily damaged or destroyed. Over the next 20 years, the buildings of historical importance were painstakingly and accurately reconstructed.
