Two Fishermen

Two Fishermen

Time to go fishing. Start today's new puzzle and join the two old fishermen for a day of fishing on the calm, blue sea. Fishing has existed as a means of obtaining food since the Mesolithic period. The early evolution of fishing as recreation is not clear. For example, there is anecdotal evidence for fly fishing in Japan, however, fly fishing was likely to have been a means of survival, rather than recreation. The earliest English essay on recreational fishing was published in 1496, by Dame Juliana Berners.

Red Barn

Red Barn

In the U.S., older barns were built from timbers hewn from trees on the farm and built as a log crib barn or timber frame, although stone barns were sometimes built in areas where stone was a cheaper building material. Many barns in the northern United States, like the one in this puzzle, are painted barn red with a white trim. One possible reason for this is that ferric oxide, which is used to create red paint, was the cheapest and most readily available chemical for farmers.
Egg Quesadilla

Egg Quesadilla

A quesadilla is a flour or corn tortilla filled with a savoury mixture containing cheese and other ingredients, then folded in half. This dish originated in Mexico, and the name is derived from the Spanish word queso (cheese). The specific origin for the quesadilla was in colonial Mexico. Their spines are not poisonous or barbed and, unlike the quills of a porcupine, cannot easily be removed from the hedgehog. Although traditionally classified in the now abandoned order Insectivora, hedgehogs are not exclusively insectivores but are almost omnivorous. Hedgehogs feed on insects, snails, frogs and toads, snakes, bird eggs, carrion, mushrooms, grass roots, berries, melons and watermelons.

Toy Train Locomotive

Toy Train Locomotive

The earliest toy trains were made of lead and had no moving parts. Around 1875, technological advancements in materials and manufacturing allowed tin to be stamped, cut, rolled, and lithographed faster than ever before. Toy trains were revolutionized when Marklin, a German firm that specialized in doll house accessories, sought to create an equivalent toy for boys where a constant revenue stream could be ensured by selling add-on accessories for years after the initial purchase. In addition to boxed sets containing a train and track, Marklin offered extra track, rolling stock, and buildings sold separately. Electric trains followed, with the first appearing in 1897, produced by the U.S. firm Carlisle & Finch. Many modern electric toy trains contain sophisticated electronics that emit digitized sound effects and allow the operator to safely and easily run multiple remote control trains on one loop of track.
