About: Ananuri was a castle and seat of the eristavis (Dukes) of Aragvi, a feudal dynasty which ruled the area from the 13th century. The castle complex is located on the Aragvi River in Georgia. The fortifications consist of two castles joined by a crenelated curtain wall. Within the complex, among other buildings, are two churches. The older Church of the Virgin, which abuts a tall square tower. It dates from the first half of the 17th century, and was built of brick. The larger Church of the Mother of God, is a central dome style structure with richly decorated facades, including a carved north entrance and a carved grapevine cross on the south facade.

The Kraków Barbican is a barbican (a fortified outpost or gateway, such as an outer defence to a city or castle, or any tower situated over a gate or bridge) once connected to the city walls. Schloss Ort is an Austrian castle situated in the Traunsee lake, in Gmunden. It was built around 1080 by Hartnidus of Ort, and improvements continued to be made into the thirteenth century. On January 5, 1995, the castle was officially acquired by the city of Gmunden. At present the castle is being used for a study center of the Federal Ministry for Land and Forestry. The Belogradchik Fortress (also known as Kaleto - "the fortress" from Turkish kale) is an ancient fortress located on the north slopes of the Balkan Mountains, close to the northwestern Bulgarian town of Belogradchik. The Kaleto Fortress was originally built by the Romans and later expanded by the Byzantines, Bulgarians and Turks. Most of what you see today was completed in the 1830s. The rock formations in the area served as a natural protection, as fortified walls were practically only built from the northwest and southeast.

Corvin Castle was laid out in 1446, when construction began at the orders of John Hunyadi ( Romanian: Iancu or Ioan de Hunedoara) who wanted to transform the former keep built by Charles I of Hungary. Built in a Renaissance-Gothic style and constructed over the site of an older fortification on a rock above the small Zlaști River, the castle is a large and imposing structure with tall towers, bastions, an inner courtyard, diversely coloured roofs, and myriads of windows and balconies adorned with stone carvings.

Bouchout Castle is a castle in the Flemish town of Meise, Belgium. Most likely, the first fortification was built by Wouter van Craaynem at the end of the Grimbergen Wars (1150–1170). At about 1300, the Donjon tower of Bouchout Castle was erected by Daniel van Bouchout, a knight who fought gloriously at the Battle of Worringen. The first major renovation was performed by Christoffel d'Assonville at about 1600. At the end of the 17th century, Peter-Ferdinand Roose transformed the castle into a Renaissance "Chateau de Bouchout", surrounded with French ornamental gardens. Unfortunately, the castle was partly destroyed during the French Revolution period (1800–1830). The castle was restored in 1832 by count Amadeus de Beauffort, who gave Bouchout Castle its current Neo-Gothic appearance.

During the French Revolution, the castle, used as a "prison for suspects" from 1793 to 1795, was saved from destruction.In 1853, Count de Choulot undertook a complete remodelling of the gardens at Hautefort at the request of the Baron de Damas, who became the owner of the Chateau .
