About: In today's new puzzle we feature the castle on Eilean Donan - a small tidal island where three lochs meet, Loch Duich, Loch Long and Loch Alsh, in the western Highlands of Scotland. The castle was founded in the thirteenth century, and became a stronghold of the Clan Mackenzie and their allies the Clan Macrae. In the early eighteenth century the Mackenzie's involvement in the Jacobite rebellions led in 1719 to the castle's destruction by government ships.The current castle is a twentieth-century reconstruction.

The castle of Maintenon is situated in the commune of Maintenon in the Eure-et-Loir departement of France. The construction of the castle began in the 12th and ended in roughly the 18th century. In the early 16th century it was purchased by Louis XII's treasurer Jean Cottereau, who transformed the castle into a country house. In the 17th century it was rebuilt for Madame de Maintenon, who purchased the estate in 1675.
Dresden Castle (German: Dresdner Residenzschloss or Dresdner Schloss) is one of the oldest buildings in Dresden. For almost 400 years, it has been the residence of the electors (1547–1806) and kings (1806–1918) of Saxony. It is known for the different architectural styles employed, from Baroque to Neo-renaissance.
From 1957 to 1988 its grounds were the home of the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. Today the Herstmonceux Castle (a brick-built Tudor castle near Herstmonceux, East Sussex, England) is used by the Bader International Study Centre of Queen's University, Canada. It is one of the oldest significant brick buildings still standing in England. The original castle was dismantled in 1777 leaving the exterior walls standing and remained a ruin until the early 20th century. Radical restoration work was undertaken by Colonel Lowther in 1913 to transform the ruined building into a residence and completed for Sir Paul Latham in 1933 by the architect, Walter Godfrey.

This beautiful piece of architecture is the Governor Palace in Metz (former General Kommando), built during the Metz's annexation. Metz is a city in the northeast of France located at the confluence of the Moselle and the Seille rivers. Metz is the capital and the prefecture of both the Lorraine region and the Moselle department. The city is located near the tripoint along the junction of France, Germany, and Luxembourg. After the defeat of France during the Franco-Prussian War and according to the Treaty of Frankfurt, the city was annexed into the German Empire, being part of the Imperial Territory of Alsace-Lorraine and serving as capital of the German Department of Lorraine. Metz remained German until the end of World War I, when it reverted to France. However, after the Battle of France during the Second World War, the city was annexed once more by the German Third Reich.In 1944, the attack on the city by the U.S. Third Army freed the city from German rule.
This beautiful piece of architecture is a Baroque palace in Moritzburg, in the German state of Saxony, about 13 kilometers northwest of the Saxon capital, Dresden. The castle has four round towers and lies on a artificial island. The castle is named after Duke Moritz of Saxony, who had a hunting lodge built there between 1542 and 1546.
This beautiful nineteenth-century palace is located on a steep hill above the village of Hohenschwangau in southwest Bavaria, Germany was commissioned by Ludwig II as a retreat and as a homage to Richard Wagner (a German composer, theatre director, polemicist, and conductor who is primarily known for his operas). In the nineteenth century, many castles were constructed or reconstructed, often with significant changes to make them more picturesque. The building design was drafted by the stage designer Christian Jank and realized by the architect Eduard Riedel. The foundation stone for the palace was laid on September 5, 1869. The castle was erected as a conventional brick construction and later encased in various types of rock. It is furnished, as you can see in this fun new puzzle, with numerous towers, ornamental turrets, gables, balconies, pinnacles and sculptures. Also known as Hunyadi Castle or Hunedoara Castle it's a Gothic-Renaissance castle in Hunedoara, Romania. Corvin Castle was laid out in 1446, when construction began at the orders of John Hunyadi ( Romanian: Iancu or Ioan de Hunedoara) who wanted to transform the former keep built by Charles I of Hungary. Built in a Renaissance-Gothic style and constructed over the site of an older fortification on a rock above the small Zlaști River, the castle is a large and imposing structure with tall towers, bastions, an inner courtyard, diversely coloured roofs, and myriads of windows and balconies adorned with stone carvings.

Situated on the cliffs at Highcliffe, Dorset, the castle featured in today's jigsaw was built between 1831 and 1835 by Charles Stuart. The Highcliffe Castle was built in aGothic Revival style on the site of High Cliff house, a Georgian Mansion designed for the 3rd Earl of Bute. The design incorporates large quantities of carved Medieval stonework salvaged from the Norman Benedictine Abbey of St Peter at Jumieges and the Grande Maison des Andelys.
Leeds Castle is located 8 km south-east of Maidstone, Kent, England, dates back to 1119. In 1278 the castle came into the hands of King Edward I, for whom it became a favorite residence. The castle seen today dates mostly from the 19th century and is built on islands in a lake formed by the River Len to the east of the village of Leeds.
Bouchout Castle is a castle in the Flemish town of Meise, Belgium. Most likely, the first fortification was built by Wouter van Craaynem at the end of the Grimbergen Wars (1150–1170). At about 1300, the Donjon tower of Bouchout Castle was erected by Daniel van Bouchout, a knight who fought gloriously at the Battle of Worringen. The first major renovation was performed by Christoffel d'Assonville at about 1600. At the end of the 17th century, Peter-Ferdinand Roose transformed the castle into a Renaissance "Chateau de Bouchout", surrounded with French ornamental gardens. Unfortunately, the castle was partly destroyed during the French Revolution period (1800–1830). The castle was restored in 1832 by count Amadeus de Beauffort, who gave Bouchout Castle its current Neo-Gothic appearance.
Hohensalzburg castle is one of the largest medieval castles in Europe. It is located in the Austrian city of Salzburg, atop the Festungsberg mountain. Construction of the fortress began in 1077 under Archbishop Gebhard von Helfenstein. The ring walls and towers were built in 1462 under Prince-Archbishop Burkhard II von Weißpriach. Prince-Archbishop Leonhard von Keutschach during his term from 1495 until 1519 further expanded the castle. In the 19th century, it was used as barracks, storage depot and dungeon before being abandoned as a military outpost in 1861. Hohensalzburg castle was refurbished from the late 19th century onwards and became a major tourist attraction with the Festungsbahn cable car, opened in 1892, leading up from the town to the Hasengrabenbastei. It stands today as one of the best preserved castles in Europe.
