About: The Chateau de Hautefort is a French castle and gardens located in the town of Hautefort in the Dordogne. The first owner of the estate was Guy de Lastours, around the year 1000. The Chateau experienced its most sumptuous period in the 17th century. During the French Revolution, the castle, used as a "prison for suspects" from 1793 to 1795, was saved from destruction.In 1853, Count de Choulot undertook a complete remodelling of the gardens at Hautefort at the request of the Baron de Damas, who became the owner of the Chateau .

A towering statue of King Carol I by Raffaello Romanelli overlooks the main entrance. The gardens also host fountains, urns, stairways, guarding lions, marble paths, and other decorative pieces.

It is located in Autoire - one of the most beautiful villages in the Lot department in southwestern France. The village of Autoire is nestled in an impressive cirque formed by high limestone cliffs. Known as "Limargue Castle" the manor house, featured in today's new jigsaw puzzle, revolves around the tower with a spiral staircase. The main entrance to the house at the bottom of the tower is decorated with intricately carved arch, characteristic of the customs of the last quarter of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century.

In the nineteenth century, many castles were constructed or reconstructed, often with significant changes to make them more picturesque. The building design was drafted by the stage designer Christian Jank and realized by the architect Eduard Riedel. The foundation stone for the palace was laid on September 5, 1869. The castle was erected as a conventional brick construction and later encased in various types of rock. It is furnished, as you can see in this fun new puzzle, with numerous towers, ornamental turrets, gables, balconies, pinnacles and sculptures. On January 5, 1995, the castle was officially acquired by the city of Gmunden. At present the castle is being used for a study center of the Federal Ministry for Land and Forestry.
