About: Karlstejn Castle, located about 30 kilometers southwest of Prague above the village of the same name, is a large Gothic castle founded 1348 by Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor-elect and King of Bohemia. The castle was built upon a promontory from the south side of Kněží Hora hill, divided from it by a narrow sag. The core of the castle consists of three parts placed on three levels-differentiated terraces; every level express different importance. On the lowest terrace stands the Imperial Palace, above it the Marian Tower and the Big Tower above it on the highest level.

Located on an island in the middle of the Indre river in the town of Azay-le-Rideau in the French departement of Indre-et-Loire, this château was built between 1518 and 1527 and is considered one of the foremost examples of early French renaissance architecture. This relatively small château is divided into two sections, the main central body and a wing at right angles to it, and displays a blend of architectural styles. The château's most prominent feature is the grand central staircase, the escalier d'honneur. Its design is thought to have been inspired by the staircase of the Château de Châteaudun, which it resembles. Azay-le-Rideau's staircase rises in straight flights rather than in a spiral, as was more usual at this time, and is the oldest surviving staircase of this kind in France.

Schloss Ort is an Austrian castle situated in the Traunsee lake, in Gmunden. It was built around 1080 by Hartnidus of Ort, and improvements continued to be made into the thirteenth century. From 1484 to 1491, the castle was governed by Gotthard von Starhenberg, the Governor of Upper Austria. In 1492, Bernhard of Starhenberg and later his descendants ruled the castle until 1584. In 1876, the castle was acquired by Archduke John Salvator of Austria (John of Tuscany). The castle was later acquired by Franz Joseph I of Austria (in 1914). On January 5, 1995, the castle was officially acquired by the city of Gmunden. At present the castle is being used for a study center of the Federal Ministry for Land and Forestry.
