About: The castle of Maintenon is situated in the commune of Maintenon in the Eure-et-Loir departement of France. The construction of the castle began in the 12th and ended in roughly the 18th century. In the early 16th century it was purchased by Louis XII's treasurer Jean Cottereau, who transformed the castle into a country house. In the 17th century it was rebuilt for Madame de Maintenon, who purchased the estate in 1675.

Corvin Castle was laid out in 1446, when construction began at the orders of John Hunyadi ( Romanian: Iancu or Ioan de Hunedoara) who wanted to transform the former keep built by Charles I of Hungary. During the French Revolution, the castle, used as a "prison for suspects" from 1793 to 1795, was saved from destruction.In 1853, Count de Choulot undertook a complete remodelling of the gardens at Hautefort at the request of the Baron de Damas, who became the owner of the Chateau .

Schloss Ort is an Austrian castle situated in the Traunsee lake, in Gmunden. It was built around 1080 by Hartnidus of Ort, and improvements continued to be made into the thirteenth century. From 1484 to 1491, the castle was governed by Gotthard von Starhenberg, the Governor of Upper Austria. In 1492, Bernhard of Starhenberg and later his descendants ruled the castle until 1584. In 1876, the castle was acquired by Archduke John Salvator of Austria (John of Tuscany). The castle was later acquired by Franz Joseph I of Austria (in 1914). On January 5, 1995, the castle was officially acquired by the city of Gmunden. At present the castle is being used for a study center of the Federal Ministry for Land and Forestry. Located in the city of Schwerin (Germany), Schwerin Castle - the beautiful castle feature in this puzzle, is situated on an island on lake Schwerin (an approximately 61 square kilometres and 52 meter depth). The palace was the home of the dukes and grand dukes of Mecklenburg and Mecklenburg-Schwerin for hundreds of years. The first records of a castle at this location date from AD 973. Major parts of the current palace were built between 1845 and 1857, as a cooperation of the renowned history architects Friedrich August Stüler, Gottfried Semper, Ernst Friedrich Zwirner and Georg Adolf Demmler. A third of the palace was destroyed in 1913 by a fire but it was reconstructed. After the abdication of the Grand Duke in 1918 the castle became a musesum and in 1948 the seate of the state parliament. Starting in the 1950 it has been a college for kindergarten teachers, a museum and since 1990 is has once again been a the seat of he state assembly of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The stone gate in this puzzle, called the Jerusalem Gate or "lower gate", is one of the entrances to the medieval stronghold in Büdingen (a town in the Wetteraukreis, in Hesse, Germany). Since 1442 the masters of Büdingen have been known as Grafen of Isenburg-Büdingen. After a local war, Graf Ludwig II built an enormous new defensive wall with 22 towers around the old stronghold between 1480 and 1510. These walls are still nearly complete and they are one of the most important medieval strongholds in Germany.
