This new online jigsaw puzzle is based on a painting by Pieter Aertsen. Pieter Aertsen (1508–3 June 1575), called Lange Pier ("Tall Pete") because of his height, was a Dutch painter in the style of Northern Mannerism, who invented the monumental genre scene combining still life and genre painting, and very often also including a biblical scene in the background. Ground Swell Play

Ground Swell

Based on Edward Hopper's 1939 painting "Ground Swell" today's puzzle echoes the themes of loneliness and escape typical of Hopper's art. The blue sky and the vast wave strike a calm note in the picture; however, the visible disengagement of the figures and their noticeable preoccupation with the buoy call into question this initial sense of serenity.
