Rusty Anchor Play

Rusty Anchor

Normally used to connect a vessel to the bed of a body of water to prevent the craft from drifting due to wind or water currents the rusty anchor in today's new jigsaw has seen better days. Although we all think of anchors as being made from metal the earliest anchors were simple rocks. Many rock anchors have been found dating from at least the Bronze Age. The ancient Greeks used baskets of stones, large sacks filled with sand, and wooden logs filled with lead.
Canyon Play

Canyon

If you don't already know, a canyon or gorge is a deep cleft between escarpments or cliffs resulting from weathering and the erosive activity of a river over geologic timescales. A canyon may also refer to a rift between two mountain peaks, such as those in ranges including the Rocky Mountains, the Alps, the Himalayas or the Andes. Canyons are much more common in arid than in wet areas because physical weathering has a more localized effect in arid zones. Sometimes large rivers run through canyons as the result of gradual geological uplift.
