Lawn Mower Puzzle Details:
About: It's time to mow the lawn. So grab the lawn mower and let's go. The first lawn mower was invented by Edwin Budding in 1827 in Thrupp, just outside Stroud, in Gloucestershire. Budding's mower was designed primarily to cut the grass on sports grounds and extensive gardens. It took ten more years and further innovations to create a machine that could be drawn by animals, and sixty years before a steam-powered lawn mower was built. Modern rotary push mowers are powered by internal combustion engines or electricity. Corded electric mowers are limited in range by their trailing power cord, which may limit their use with lawns. While considered antiquated in modern times, the original type of push-powered reel mowers are still available.

If you didn't know, from the mid-17th century to the 19th century, the uniform of most British soldiers (apart from artillery, rifles and light cavalry) included a madder red coat or coatee. From 1873 onwards, the more vivid shade of scarlet was adopted for all ranks, having previously been worn only by officers, sergeants and all ranks of some cavalry regiments. From the modern perspective, the retention of a highly conspicuous colour such as red for active service appears inexplicable and foolhardy, regardless of how striking it may have looked on the parade ground. However, in the days of the musket and black powder, battle field visibility was quickly obscured by clouds of smoke. Bright colours provided a means of distinguishing friend from foe without significantly adding risk.
