About: This year's pumpkin harvest has turned out all right. Lots and lots of pumpkins, winter squashes and gords have been harvested and ready to be stored for winter. Like many fruits and root vegetables stored for the colder months, pumpkins and winter squash prefer a well-ventilated, dry place with a temperature that's between 55 and 60 degrees F and a relative humidity of about 50%. When stored properly, pie pumpkins and winter squash will keep for many months.

The town was first mentioned in the records in 1121 in connexion with Count Adalbert of Haimar. On 17 April 1229 the settlement was granted town rights. Wernigerode was the capital of the medieval County of Wernigerode and Stolberg-Wernigerode. In 1815, after the Napoleonic Wars, it became part of the Prussian Province of Saxony.
