Biplane Propeller

Biplane Propeller

If you didn't already know, a biplane is a fixed-wing aircraft with two main wings stacked one above the other. The first powered, controlled aeroplane to fly, the Wright Flyer, was a biplane. Biplanes offer several advantages over conventional cantilever monoplane designs: they permit lighter wing structures, low wing loading and smaller span for a given wing area. The yellow biplane feature in today's new puzzle is powered by an engine using a wooden propeller. Propellers are made from wood, metal or composites and are used to convert rotary motion from an engine or other power source, into a swirling slipstream which pushes the propeller forwards or backwards.

Sopwith Camel

Put this jigsaw back together and see the legendary Sopwith Camel. The Sopwith Camel was a British First World War single-seat biplane fighter introduced on the Western Front in 1917. Though difficult to handle, to an experienced pilot it provided unmatched maneuverability. A superlative fighter, the Camel was credited with shooting down 1,294 enemy aircraft, more than any other Allied fighter of the war.

Air Force One over Mt. Rushmore

This online puzzle features the Air Force One flying over Mt. Rushmore. Air Force One is the official air traffic control call sign of a United States Air Force aircraft carrying the President of the United States. The "Air Force One" call sign was created after a 1953 incident during which a flight carrying President Dwight D. Eisenhower entered the same airspace as a commercial airline flight using the same call sign. Several aircraft have been used as Air Force One since the creation of the presidential fleet, including two Boeing 707s introduced in the 1960s and 1970s, respectively; since 1990, the presidential fleet has consisted of two Boeing VC-25As – specifically configured, highly customized Boeing 747-200B series aircraft.
