They graze on grasses, sedges, and other herbaceous plants found in meadows, pastures, and wetlands. In addition to terrestrial vegetation, geese forage on aquatic plants such as pondweed, waterweed, and duckweed, often submerging their heads underwater to reach submerged vegetation. During the fall and winter months, geese may shift their diet to include grains such as wheat, barley, corn, and rice, foraging in agricultural fields.
