The painting depicts four jockeys on horseback just before a race. The horse and rider theme was one of Degas's favorites. He returned to this theme time and time again throughout his career. Over the course of his career it is reported that he created 45 oils, 20 pastels, 250 drawings, and 17 sculptures related to horses.

This new puzzle is based on "Paris Street; Rainy Day" a 1877 oil painting by the French artist Gustave Caillebotte (1848–1894). The painting shows a number of people walking through the Place de Dublin, then known as the Carrefour de Moscou, at an intersection to the east of the Gare Saint-Lazare in north Paris. The painting was first shown at the Third Impressionist Exhibition of 1877.
