About Banded Cotingas: The banded cotinga (Cotinga maculata) is a rare songbird found only in the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil. Males have brilliant blue plumage, dark wings and tail, and a broad purple area across the throat and belly. Females look very different, with brown plumage covered in pale, scale-like markings that provide camouflage among branches and foliage.
