The orangutan is a great ape native to the rainforests of Indonesia and Malaysia (now found only in parts of Borneo and Sumatra). It is among the most intelligent primates and the most arboreal of the great apes. The orangutan is primarily frugivores (fruit-eaters) and 57–80% of their feeding time is spent foraging for fruits. Other food items consumed by the apes include leaves, bark, honey, bird eggs, insects and small vertebrates. The name "orangutan" is derived from the Malay words orang, meaning "person", and hutan, meaning "forest".
