The painting was made in 1839 and had three versions. The alleged first version is privately owned and used to be on loan to the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg. The best known version is now in the Neue Pinakothek, Munich (the one featured in this puzzle). Another version was held in the National Gallery, Berlin. The one featured in this puzzle depicts a poet in his poor attic room. Spitzweg possibly borrowed his title from the drama by August von Kotzebue, The Poor Poet (1812).

As you might of guessed from the title, today we're visiting Vahrn in Tyrol near Brixen. Or better said, a beautiful part of it as by William Stanley Haseltine in the 1800s. Haseltine (June 11, 1835 – February 3, 1900) was an American painter and draftsman who was associated with the Dusseldorf school of painting, the Hudson River School and Luminism.
