About Landscape with Trees in Bloom: Bohumil Hanák’s "Landscape with Trees in Bloom" captures the gentle freshness of spring in a quiet rural setting. A large flowering tree dominates the scene, its pale blossoms spreading across the canvas like a soft cloud of light. Beneath it, deep green grass and earthy patches of ground give the landscape a natural, lived-in feeling, while the red-roofed buildings in the background add warmth and a sense of village life. Painted in 1928, the work has a loose, expressive quality, with visible brushstrokes that make the tree, sky, and meadow feel alive. The contrast between the delicate blossoms, the sturdy dark trunk, and the simple countryside architecture creates a peaceful image of renewal and seasonal beauty. Rather than presenting a dramatic view, Hanák focuses on an ordinary spring moment, turning it into a calm and intimate landscape full of light, color, and quiet charm. // Image Credit: Bohumil Hanák – Landscape with Trees in Bloom, 20. storo?ie, 1. polovica, 1928, Slovenská národná galéria, SNG
George Stubbs' painting Zebra, created around 1763, is a fascinating piece that reflects the period’s growing European interest in exotic animals and the natural world. Stubbs, an English painter known primarily for his exceptional horse paintings, had a deep interest in anatomy, which is evident in the way he carefully studied and rendered animals. This piece, Zebra, features a zebra in a naturalistic style, set against a somewhat pastoral, English landscape. The animal stands almost regally, depicted with meticulous attention to the details of its striped coat and form, showcasing Stubbs' anatomical knowledge and his appreciation for the exotic creature. The zebra in this painting was one of the first of its kind brought to England, a gift to Queen Charlotte.
This fun and challenging jigsaw puzzle captures the instant a quiet wetland turns electric with motion. Water erupts beneath the flock as wings beat upward in a shared, urgent rhythm. The mallard’s bright colors shimmer briefly before blending into the flurry of darker forms around him. Black ducks rise beside him, their silhouettes gliding into the open air with confident grace. Ripples stretch outward, marking the place where stillness was broken. The birds climb together, neither leading nor following, only answering the same instinct to lift away. Light catches their wings as they arc toward the sky. In a single sweeping moment, the marsh shifts from calm to airborne.
A burst of motion disturbs the stillness at the edge of a quiet pond. A proud rooster, glowing with rich reds and deep greens, stands watch among hens, while ducks glide and ripple the water below. A small dog’s bark breaks the calm, sending a pigeon upward in a sudden flash of wings. Feathers shimmer, water trembles, and each animal seems caught in a fleeting moment between calm and commotion. Melchior d'Hondecoeter was one of the leading animal painters of the Dutch Golden Age, known especially for his lively bird scenes. Unlike many artists of his time, he portrayed animals with striking individuality and movement, often arranging them in dramatic, almost theatrical compositions. His works were popular among wealthy collectors, who admired both their decorative beauty and their vivid sense of life.
Male mallard ducks, or drakes, are recognizable by their iridescent green heads, white neck rings, chestnut-brown chests, and grayish bodies, with yellow to orange bills. They are highly adaptable, found in various habitats including wetlands, lakes, rivers, and urban areas across North America, Europe, Asia, and parts of Africa. During the breeding season, drakes form strong pair bonds with females, exhibiting courtship displays and vocalizations. They are omnivorous, feeding on aquatic vegetation, insects, small fish, and crustaceans, and are often seen dabbling in shallow water. After the breeding season, drakes molt and temporarily adopt a more subdued plumage similar to females.

This new puzzle is based on Pissaro's 1893 painting, "A Washerwoman at Eragny". The washerwoman in Pissarro's painting is hard at work, scrubbing clothing in one barrel and rinsing them out in another. Before the invention of electricity and washing machines this is the way most people used to clean their clothes. It was hard work and it took a lot more time than today. If you didn't already know, a washerwoman or laundress is a woman who takes in laundry. These terms are now old-fashioned.

Today we're visiting the Aqueduct in Arcueil, a commune in the Val-de-Marne department in the southern suburbs of Paris, France. The name Arcueil means "place of the arches" (Latin radical arcus, "arch", and Celtic suffix -ialo, "place of"), in reference to the Roman aqueduct carrying water to the Roman city of Lutetia (modern Paris). Between 1613 and 1624 a bridge-aqueduct over 400 meters long was constructed to bring water from the spring of Rungis, south of Arcueil, across the Bievre river to the Luxembourg Palace in Paris. Between 1868 and 1872 another aqueduct was superimposed above the previous one, forming part of the system bringing water from the river Vanne to Paris. This puzzle is based on a 1874 painting by Jean Baptiste Armand Guillaumin.
