"Bank of the Oise at Auvers" by Vincent van Gogh is a vibrant and energetic depiction of a peaceful riverside scene, painted in 1890 during the final months of his life. This work is part of a series Van Gogh created in Auvers-sur-Oise, a small town outside of Paris where he spent his last weeks. Bold strokes of green, blue, and teal fill the canvas, giving life to the water, trees, and boats resting along the bank. The scene shows rowboats and figures near the river's edge, likely inspired by the leisure activities of the townspeople, a common subject in late 19th-century art. Van Gogh’s signature impasto technique - thick, textured layers of paint - creates a sense of motion and depth, especially in the foliage and water. His expressive brushwork conveys both tranquility and energy, blending nature and human activity into one swirling, vibrant composition.
Calves by the Beach (1896) by Theodor Philipsen depicts a serene coastal scene where young cattle graze and rest near the shore under a vast, sunlit sky. The calm blue water and open horizon convey a sense of peace and spaciousness. Philipsen’s loose, impressionistic brushwork captures the shifting light and texture of grass, fur, and clouds with delicate precision. Warm earth tones of the calves contrast beautifully with the cool blues of the sea and sky. The animals appear at ease in their natural surroundings, embodying the quiet rhythm of rural life. Painted outdoors, the work reflects Philipsen’s fascination with natural light and atmosphere. Influenced by French Impressionism, he adapted its techniques to Danish landscapes with a distinctly local sensibility. The result is a luminous portrayal of harmony between land, sea, and living creatures.

Raspberries are a nutrient-rich fruit known for their vibrant red color and delicate, juicy texture. Each berry is made up of tiny drupelets, giving it a unique structure and satisfying bite. They are an excellent source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, and powerful antioxidants like quercetin and ellagic acid, which help protect the body from oxidative stress. Raspberries belong to the rose family (Rosaceae) and are closely related to blackberries. They thrive in cool climates and are typically harvested in summer when they reach peak sweetness. Low in calories but high in nutrients, raspberries support heart health, aid digestion, and may help regulate blood sugar levels. Their natural sweetness makes them a versatile ingredient for desserts, smoothies, and salads. Freshly picked raspberries capture the essence of nature's simple, wholesome goodness.
Today we're visiting the Aqueduct in Arcueil, a commune in the Val-de-Marne department in the southern suburbs of Paris, France. The name Arcueil means "place of the arches" (Latin radical arcus, "arch", and Celtic suffix -ialo, "place of"), in reference to the Roman aqueduct carrying water to the Roman city of Lutetia (modern Paris). Between 1613 and 1624 a bridge-aqueduct over 400 meters long was constructed to bring water from the spring of Rungis, south of Arcueil, across the Bievre river to the Luxembourg Palace in Paris. Between 1868 and 1872 another aqueduct was superimposed above the previous one, forming part of the system bringing water from the river Vanne to Paris. This puzzle is based on a 1874 painting by Jean Baptiste Armand Guillaumin.
Bordighera by Claude Monet immerses the viewer in the lush Mediterranean landscape of the Italian Riviera, captured during his visit in 1884. The painting showcases a view framed by twisting, expressive trees, their branches arching dynamically across the canvas. Through the trees, glimpses of the sunlit town of Bordighera and the shimmering blue sea evoke a sense of discovery and wonder. The composition emphasizes the untamed beauty of nature, with the trees appearing almost animated as they bend and twist. The town in the distance, rendered in soft golden hues, contrasts with the wild vitality of the foreground, grounding the scene in human presence.
