About Northern Sea Ducks: Assemble a windswept stretch of northern coastline where sea and stone create a resting place for a hardy group of marine ducks. King Eiders, Northern (Common) Eiders, and boldly patterned Harlequin Ducks gather along the intertidal rocks between foraging bouts in the cold surf. These ducks are true sea specialists. Eiders dive for clams, mussels, and other shellfish, swallowing prey whole and crushing shells in their gizzards. Harlequin Ducks feed in rough water, picking aquatic invertebrates from wave-washed rocks and swift currents. All three species breed in Arctic and subarctic regions and spend much of the year in coastal marine habitats rather than inland lakes. Rich in detail and natural history, Northern Sea Ducks offers a calm, challenging puzzle and a glimpse into life at the edge of the northern ocean. // Image Credit: Fuertes, Louis Agassiz. The black-backed woodpecker inhabits the forests of North America and is a medium-sized woodpecker. The plumage of these cute woodpeckers is black on the head, back, wings and rump. They are white from the throat to the belly. You can tell the male apart from the female by it's yellow cap.
In today's puzzle we feature a cute black cat sitting on a wooden fence. If you didn't know, any cat whose fur is a single color, including black, is known as a "solid". A "solid black" cat may be grayish black, brownish black, or coal black. Most black cats have golden irises due to their high melanin pigment content. All-black fur pigmentation is slightly more prevalent in male cats.
Today's puzzle is based on Vincent Van Gogh's 1888 painting with the same name. Joseph Roulin, the main character of this painting, was a postal employee in Arles, became a surrogate "big brother" for the artist, caring for Vincent during the major onset of mental illness that came in 1888, and seeing him through the asylum months of early 1889.
Hummingbirds are small, colorful birds known for their rapid wing beats, which can range from 50 to 80 flaps per second. They are the only birds capable of sustained hovering and can also fly backward, thanks to their unique ball-and-socket shoulder joints. Most species are found in the Americas, particularly in Central and South America, with over 300 known species. Hummingbirds have incredibly high metabolisms and must consume large amounts of nectar daily, often feeding every 10–15 minutes. In addition to nectar, they eat insects and spiders for protein. Their bright, iridescent feathers are not pigmented but reflect light in a way that creates vivid coloration. These birds are also important pollinators, playing a critical role in the ecosystems where they live.

The painting was commissioned by the merchant Moritz G. Melchior and it was painted in 1866. Moritz is included in the background of the painting.
