About Baltimore Oriole: The Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula) is a medium-sized songbird native to eastern and central North America. Adult males are bright orange with a black head, while females are yellow-orange with grayish backs and white wing bars. The species typically inhabits open woodlands, forest edges, parks, and residential areas with tall deciduous trees. It feeds on insects, spiders, ripe fruit, and nectar, and frequently visits backyard feeders offering oranges or grape jelly. Orioles construct distinctive hanging, pouch-like nests woven from plant fibers and string. Their song is a clear, whistled series of short, flute-like notes. Baltimore Orioles migrate long distances, breeding in the United States and southern Canada and wintering in Central America, northern South America, and the Caribbean. The species is commonly observed high in the canopy, where its bright plumage is often easiest to spot in flight. // Image Credit: Audubon, John James, and Robert Havell. Baltimore oriole : 1 & 2. Mosses are non-vascular plants that can grow in a variety of environments, including on the branches of trees in forests. Mosses do not have true roots, so they absorb water and nutrients directly through their leaves. In forests, moss can grow on tree branches that provide a suitable substrate and conditions for growth. This can include branches that are shaded, moist, and have a rough surface, which can provide a good foothold for the moss to attach and grow. Additionally, the presence of moss on tree branches can also indicate high humidity levels in the forest, which can create an ideal environment for moss growth. This is because mosses require a lot of moisture to survive and reproduce, and high humidity levels can help to provide this.
