Also known as swamp cypress, white cypress, tidewater red cypress, gulf cypress and red cypress, the bald cypress is a deciduous conifer. Although many conifers are evergreen, bald cypress trees shed their needlelike leaves in the fall. Their bark is grayish brown to reddish brown, thin, and fibrous with a stringy texture and have needle-like green leaves. In autumn, the leaves turn yellow or copper red.
